August 20 - Tokyo have announced that they have signed up three new sponsors to take their total to 17 as the vote to decide which city will follow London 2012 and host the 2016 Olympics rapidly approaches.

Residential builder Daiwa House Industry, freight company Yamato Transport and brewer/beverage company Asahi Breweries, have joined the list of major Japanese names as Tokyo 2016 Official Partners.

All three companies are among the world leaders in their respective businesses.

Tokyo 2016 now has 17 partner companies for the bid, which Japanese officials claim demonstrates the Olympic Movement the potential to reach more than three billion prime-time viewers across the Asia-Pacific region.

This huge market is unprecedented in the history of the Games, they claim.

During the remaining two months of Tokyo 2016’s bid, these partners, who also Asics, Yahoo Japan Corporation, Japan Airlines and Asahi Breweries, will campaign on behalf of the Japanese capital as well as collaborate with the bid committee.

The Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI) – a body representing more than 80,000 companies from across the world’s largest city – has also established an Olympic and Paralympic Bid Special Committee to coordinate its support for Tokyo 2016.

Dr Ichiro Kono, the chairman and chief executive of Tokyo 2016, said: “I am hugely encouraged by the level of corporate support that the Tokyo 2016 Bid Committee has received.

"Today’s announcement marks the incredible milestone of 17 partner companies for the bid, and these include some of Japan’s biggest and best-loved brands.

"All are hugely passionate about Tokyo 2016 setting the stage for heroes, and this enthusiasm is shared throughout all sections of Japanese society.

“Tokyo 2016’s financial and corporate support, has not only resulted in our excellent group of sponsors, but has also seen the Tokyo Metropolitan Government set aside a $4 billion contingency fund for the Games.

"This fully demonstrates Tokyo 2016’s unique and secure offering to the Olympic Movement.”

Tokyo is one of four bidders for the 2016 Olympics along with Chicago, Madrid and Rio de Janeiro.

The International Olympic Committee are due to announce their decision at its Session in Copenhagen on October 2.
