December 23 - Rhona Martin, who led Britain's curlers to the Olympic gold medal in Salt Lake City in 2002, has been appointed head coach of the women's team for the 2014 Games in Sochi, it has been announced.
December 20 - Denmark took full advantage of the recent European Curling Championships in Switzerland to pick-up the best ideas for the Capital One World Women's Curling Championship which they will host from March 18-27 next year.
December 11 - Sweden's Stina Viktorsson beat Scotland's Eve Muirhead by 8-6 in a high-class final at the Le Gruyère European Curling Championships in Champéry, Switzerland, to take gold and her first European crown.
Denver were awarded the 1976 Winter Olympic Games ahead of Sion in Switzerland, Tempere in Finland and Vancouver in Canada at the International Olympic Committee Session in 1970. But in a Colorado referendum in November 1972, voters rejected funding for the event. It is the only time a city has been awarded the Olympics but pulled out. The IOC then offered the Games to Whistler in Canada, but they too declined owing to a change of Government following elections. Salt Lake City offered to host the Games, but the IOC, still reeling from the Denver rejection, declined and selected Innsbruck, the 1964 host city, as a replacement.
