Nominations have opened for the 2014 IPC Athletes' Council electionsSeptember 26 - The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have opened the call for nominations for their 2014 Athletes' Council elections.

The IPC Athletes' Council stands as the voice between the decision-makers and Paralympic athletes, and works to provide effective input into decision-making across the organisation, including various committees and commissions.

IPC Athletes' Council chairman Todd Nicholson said: "As the Paralympic Movement continues to grow, we have a responsibility to ensure that the athlete voice is in the minds of everyone that is making the decisions regarding athletes and the success of the Paralympic Movement.

"I would encourage anyone that is willing to devote the time, commitment and leadership skills to become a part of history as the Paralympic Movement continues to exceed everyone's current expectations.

"Help us help you, by becoming a member of the IPC Athletes' Council. Our goal is to provide advice and guidance that will help make positive changes throughout Paralympic sport around the world."

Nominees must be competing at next year's Winter Paralympics in Sochi or have competed at either of the previous two Winter Games, and only one candidate can be put forward by each National Paralympic Committee (NPC).

The window for nominations will be open until December 3, before a list of candidates is published two months prior to Sochi 2014.

The vote will then take place in Sochi during the Games.

The IPC have stated that ideal candidates will possess "strong qualities of leadership, accomplishment, knowledge and respect, both on and off the field of play."

To request a nomination form, athletes are asked to contact IPC executive office manager Verena Conrad at [email protected].
