Georgina Morgan scored a last gasp winner to silence the home crowd and clinch a 2-1 victory for Australia over hosts Argentina on the second day of the International Hockey Federation's (FIH) Women's World League final in Rosario.

In a contest pitting together the world's second and third ranked teams, the game was a high quality contest, packed full of impressive intensity and skill even if genuine chances were few and far between.

The hosts took an early lead in the fourth minute when Delfina Merino – celebrating her 200th cap - powered home after some silky interplay.

Australia were the stronger team thereafter but it took until deep in the second half for them to draw level, with Jodie Kenny slamming home from a penalty corner with seven minutes to go.

Argentina nearly took the lead once again when Carla Rebecchi was desperately unlucky to see her shot ricochet off the post moments later.

But then, with the clock counting down, Australia won a penalty corner, which Morgan duly powered into the back of the net for a decisive winner.

Her team duly move comfortably clear at the top of the table after Britain and China played out a 1-1 draw in the day's other clash.

Helen Richardson-Walsh scored the opener soon after the break, and just a minute later Wang Mengyu equalised. 

In Pool A, tournament favourites The Netherlands continued their superb form with a 4-1 victory over New Zealand.

Caia van Maasakker scored the opener with just three minutes on the clock before Petrea Webster drew the Kiwis level.

Kelly Jonker restored the Dutch advantage just before halftime before Ellen Hoog and Laurien Leurink each found the net to allow the world and Olympic champions to open clear daylight.

Germany drew 1-1 with South Korea in the day's other match, with Franzisca Hauke cancelling out Han Hye Lyoung's opener.
