Tokyo 2020 today announced Japan's leading manufacturer of plumbing products as an Official Partner, the second tier of its domestic sponsorship programme. 

TOTO will be the sponsor in the "Bathroom and Kitchen Fixtures" category - a first for an Olympic Games.

It the brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 partners to 27, including 12 Official Partners. 

“TOTO Ltd. provides a variety of essential plumbing products that contribute to healthy and added-value lifestyles to people in Japan, and we are delighted to welcome the company as a Tokyo 2020 Official Partner," said Yoshirō Mori, President of Tokyo 2020. 

"I have high expectations that TOTO will exemplify the omotenashi [selfless hospitality] that we aim to extend to all athletes, Games-related personnel and spectators.”

TOTO was founded in 1912 by Kazuchika Okura before the concept of public sewage systems was widespread in Japan. 

After seeing more advanced systems overseas, he was moved to establish a ceramic sanitary ware laboratory to develop healthier and cleaner living spaces.

In 1917, Okura founded Toyo Toki K.K. - which became known as TOTO LTD. - to supply the market with these products. 

The company invented and patented the Washlet, electric toilet seats with water spray feature for anal and genital cleansing.

Tokyo 2020 is aiming to raise a a total of JPY¥150 billion (£840 million/€1.27 billion/$1.1 billion) through its sponsorship programme to help fund the cost of hosting the Olymipcs and Paralympics, the first time they will have been staged in the Japanese capital since 1964.
