Heavy rain and a strong breeze forced race organisers to cancel the second day of racing at the 470 European Championships in the Bay of Palma.

The third race in the women’s yellow and blue fleets was initially able to get underway, but heavy rain on the Spanish coast saw the visibility drop.

As a consequence, organisers eventually called the fleets back ashore to assess whether the conditions would improve enough for racing to go ahead later in the day.

After the conditions failed to improve significantly, the decision to halt racing for the day was made by the Race Committee.

With no racing possible, Austria’s Lara Vadlau and Jolanta Ogar will lead the women’s event on day three, having won both their blue fleet races yesterday.

Argentina’s Lucas Calabrese and Juan De La Fuente of Argentina lead the men’s open standings, with nations outside Europe able to compete at the event.

The duo have three points, while Sweden’s Anton Dahlberg and Fredrik Bergström lie a point further back to top the European Championship leaderboard.
