The Cuba Domadores surged into the final of the World Series of Boxing (WSB) with a second straight 5-0 whitewash of the Uzbek Tigers in the second leg of their last four clash at the Coliseo Ciudad Deportiva in Havana.

Having all-but guaranteed a place in the Season VI finale by winning all five bouts in the first leg, the Cuban outfit reasserted their status as favourites for the title with another flawless display against a hapless Uzbek team to complete a 10-0 success.

Their spot in the final, where they will take on either the British Lionhearts or defending champions the Astana Arlans Kazakhstan, who beat the Domadores to the Season V crown, was confirmed when flyweight Yosbany Veitia overcame Abrorjon Kodirov.

The Cuban boxer dominated the fight from start to finish and capitalised on any slight error from his opponent to seal victory by unanimous decision.

Despite having already secured their progression, the Domadores kept up the pressure and doubled their lead on the night as three-time AIBA World Champion Lazaro Alvarez proved too strong for Elnur Abduraimov, racking up another unanimous triumph for the host nation.

Roniel Iglesias, the London 2012 Olympic welterweight champion, then laid down a marker ahead of his title defence at Rio 2016 with a superb performance on his way to comfortably sweeping aside Makhmud Gaipov.

Cuba Domadores team captain and multiple world champion Julio Cesar La Cruz then got in on the act, extending his side’s lead to 4-0 by beating Shukhrat Abdullaev.

La Cruz was clearly in no mood to let the fact that the match-up was a dead rubber affect his form as he picked off the Tigers boxer at will, eventually claiming victory by unanimous decision.

His win left super heavyweight Leinier Pero with the opportunity to secure a second consecutive clean sweep and he duly obliged, ousting Mirzohidjon Abdullaev as all judges declared him the victor.

The result for the Domadores saw them signal their intention to both the Lionhearts and the Astana Arlans, who do battle for the right to take on the formidable Cubans at London’s York Hall on May 26 and 27.
