The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has contacted the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) of Zambia for "clarification" following reports the body has been dissolved and an interim committee put in place.

The NPC of Zambia Board has been embroiled in wrangles about mismanagement and mishandling of finances, according to The Post News Zambia.

It led to affiliate members to call for an extraordinary meeting in September to resolve the issues, however, treasurer Jane Banda and other Board members did not attend.

Only 23 of the 27 affiliates were present at the meeting, which went ahead after a quorum was formed and saw the decision taken to dissolve the Board and put in place an interim committee.

"Yes, the interim committee has been put in place," general secretary Mary Chileshe told The Post News Zambia.

"It is the same committee that will take the resolutions to the Ministry of Sports on the way forward."

Chileshe condemned the hooliganism that overshadowed the meeting, which was allegedly disrupted by unknown people.

"Imagine people came, thugs were hired to disrupt our meeting," she added.

"They even broke the toilet pan at the Paralympic committee office, but they left on their own complaining that they were paid little money.

"It’s a shame really that people cannot see that things have not been right."

Contacted by insidethegames regarding the situation, an IPC spokesman said: "Providing they follow the rules in appointing a new leader then this is not a problem.

"In any case, we’ve contacted them to see what is going on."

Zambia made its Paralympic debut at Atlanta 1996, where wheelchair racer Lango Sinkamba was their sole representative.

The country in Southern Africa has since featured at Sydney 2000, Beijing 2008 and London 2012 but has never won a medal.

They were not represented at Rio 2016.
