Australia rounded off the Oceania Track Cycling Championships in style as they claimed a Madison double on the final day of the event in Melbourne.

It proved to be a dominant end for the hosts as they secured six of the seven gold medals on offer.

The duo of Annette Edmondson, a double world champion and Olympic bronze medallist, and Amy Cure won the first-ever women’s Madison to be staged at the competition with 44 points at The Melbourne Velodrome.

The Australians finished in front of Michaela Drummond and Racquel Sheath, while the host nation picked up the bronze medal thanks to Ashlee Ankudinoff and Josie Talbot.

In the men’s race, the final event on the Oceania Track Cycling Championships programme, Callum Scotson and Kell O’Brien delivered success for Australia on 66 points.

They led home a one-two from the Australian team as Nicholas Yalouris and Cameron Scott were second, while bronze went the way of Westley Gough and Tom Sexton.

Ed Dawkins, silver medallist in the team sprint event at the OIympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, took the men’s keirin honours to briefly break the Australian monopoly of the final day’s action.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist and two-time world champion spearheaded a podium sweep for New Zealand as Jordan Castle and Sam Webster earned silver and bronze respectively.

Experienced campaigner Kaarle McCulloch, who won bronze in the team sprint at London 2012 as well as gold in the same event at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, emerged victorious in the women’s sprint.

The 28-year-old was involved in a straight battle with team-mate Courtney Field in the final and proved too strong to end the Championships on a high.

There was also an all-Australian affair for bronze as Stephanie Morton overcame challenger Holly Takos.

Jade Haines of Australia sealed victory in the first final of the concluding day, topping the podium in the junior women’s scratch race.

Ellesse Andrews of New Zealand finished in front of compatriot Emily Shearman in the fight for bronze.

Stephen Cuff of Australia won the junior men’s points race with 12, two ahead of team-mate Jensen Plowright, with Tyler Lindorff completing the one-two-three for the hosts.

In the junior men’s keirin, Kye Bonser wrapped up the win as he beat New Zealand’s Jackson Ogle and Australia’s James Brister.
