Former FIFA Presidential candidate Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein was among those to collect an award at the eighth edition of the H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Awards at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

The Jordanian was named as Arab Sports Personality at the prestigious event, which honours "creativity in sports work" in Arab countries and across the world.

Prince Ali was recognised after his outspoken stance against corruption at FIFA, football's world governing body.

He attempted to force the organisation to use transparent voting booths during the Presidential election in February, which was won by Gianni Infantino.

His bid, however, to enforce this at the Court of Arbitration for Sport was rejected.

"The Award motivates all sportspersons to attain excellence and to keep on the track of distinction," said Prince Ali, a FIFA vice president who heads up the Jordan Football Association and West Asia Football Federation.

Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, was present at the awards which feature his name alongside a host other dignitaries.

Other winners include the Badminton World Federation, who won the International Summer Federation Award for their "transparent" voting system.

The British Paralympic Association won the National Paralympic Committee prize.

This was due to "mplementing a programme, based on integrity and transparency, to nominate participants in the Paralympic Games, expanding opportunities for athletes to attain medals and motivating the upcoming generations of athletes".

Arab athlete awards went to Jordan's taekwondo player Ahmad Abughaush and shooter Fehaid Al-Deehani of Kuwait.

Both won Olympic gold medals at Rio 2016 in August, although Al-Deehani's was under the Olympic flag as Kuwait were suspended due to Government interference.
