Russia’s Pavel Batushev and Ekaterina Feoktistova triumphed in the speed finals at the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) Ice Climbing World Cup in Rabenstein.

Batushev would complete his first run in the men’s final in a time of 9.23 seconds in Italy, with his effort seeing him move to top the standings.

Although he was unable to better the time, it would prove enough for the victory as his compatriot Vladimir Kartashev narrowly missed out by finishing in 9.24.

An all-Russian podium was completed by Egor Trapeznikov in 9.34, while Leonid Malykh was the only other man to dip under the 10 second mark by clocking 9.57 to end fourth.

Feoktistova would triumph in the women’s competition as Russian success continued at the final World Cup of the season.

Her first two attempts would not be enough for top spot, but Feoktistova’s final effort of 11.65 seconds would prove enough to move into first position.

Ekaterina Koshcheeva rounded off the podium as she ended in a time of 13.16 seconds.

The lead competitions will take place tomorrow as the World Cup season draws to its conclusion in Italy.

The event comes a week ahead of the World Championships, which will take place in Champagny-en-Vanoise, France, from February 4 to 5.
