Hosts United States dominated qualification as the latest leg of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Freestyle Skiing Halfpipe World Cup began in Mammoth Mountain. 

Torin Yater-Wallace, a World Championship silver medallist in 2013, produced the best run in California as he scored 92.33 points.

His compatriot Gus Kenworthy was the second best performer with a tally of 92.00, with the final taking place on Friday (February 3).

Two more Americans qualified in third and fourth positions as Taylor Seaton and Aaron Blunck scored 90.00 and 89.00 respectively.

France's Benoit Valenin was the best of the rest with a score of 88.00.

His team-mate Kevin Rolland, who won the opening leg of the World Cup season in Copper Mountain, was the 13th best qualifier as he bids to also win the second competition of the campaign. 

On a busy day of FIS World Cup action in Mammoth Mountain, France's Marie Martinod, the winner in Copper Mountain, topped the women's ski halfpipe qualification.

She scored 94 to comfortably beat second-placed American qualifier Maddie Bowman, who managed 86.66.

The women's halfpipe final will also take place on Friday.

Ski-slopestyle World Cup action also took place with Sweden's Emma Dahlstrom leading the way with 91.66 in the women's competition.

American Maggie Voisin and Swiss skier Mathilde Gremaud also qualified strongly by both ending on 90.33.

The men's qualifiers will take place tomorrow with both finals on Saturday (February 4).

In snowboard competition, Redmond Gerard led the men's slopestyle qualifiers with 89.66, beating his colleague Eric Willett who tallied 85.33 for second place, and third placed Norwegian Staale Sandbech on 84.00.

Jamie Anderson of the US topped the women's snowboard slopestyle qualifiers, scoring 96.00.

Her team-mate Hailey Langland tallied 90.33 to finish second.

The top three qualifiers in the women's snowboard halfpipe were all American, with Kelly Clark topping the pile on 92.25.

Chloe Kim was second on 91.00, with Hannah Teter third on 90.25. 

The men's snowboard halfpipe qualifiers will take place tomorrow, with both snowboard slopestyle finals on Friday.
