Seitaro Ichinohe of Japan claimed the gold medal in the men's speed skating mass start race at the Medeu High-mountain Ice Rink here today.

It was his first gold medal of the 2017 Winter Universiade after winning silver in both the men's team pursuit and 5,000m earlier in the competition.

Ichinohe crossed the line in 8min 29.59sec but accumulated 65 points in the sprint stages to claim victory.

Lin Jeeyeong of South Korea finished in second place after he took 40 points.

The Asian duo were joined on the podium by Russian Aleksandr Razorenov, who was awarded 20 points in the sprint section.

Russia's Anna Pristalova then won the women's mass start gold medal.

Pristalova, who studies at the Russian State Vocational-Pedagogical University, finished in a time of 10:07.42 but accumulated 68 points in the sprints to claim victory.

Japan's Nene Sakai finished in second on 40 points in the sprints and with a time of 10:15.74.

Jun Yejin of South Korea completed the podium in the final speed skating race of the Universiade with an effort of 10:15.57 and 21 points.
