Floridablanca in Colombia will host the most lucrative women's squash tournament ever played in South America next month.

The Ciudad de Floridablanca tournament will offer a prize purse of $70,000 (£56,000/€65,000) with the Professional Squash Association (PSA) W70 event attracting a top field.

Matches will be played in a special glass court on the Parque el Santisim, underneath a statue of Christ the Redeemer.

American number one Amanda Sobhy will be the top seed with Malaysia's eight-time world champion Nicol David ranked at number two.

England's former world number three Alison Waters and Egypt's current world number nine Omneya Abdel Kawy will also compete.

Colombian interest will come in the form of wildcard Catalina Pelaez.

Action will take place from March 8 to 11.

"The start of the tournament coincides with International Women’s Day, so we are excited to hold the most lucrative women’s squash tournament ever to be held in South America to mark the date," said Squash Colombia President Pablo Felipe Serna.

"The Parque el Santisim promises to offer a stunning view for spectators and will provide a fitting setting for the world’s leading players over the course of the event as we look forward to an exciting week of world-class action.

"By giving local fans the chance to see some of their heroes in the flesh, we hope to aid squash’s growing popularity in South America."
