A top class field is set to feature in the latest stage of the International Cycling Union (UCI) World Tour when it comes to Italy tomorrow.

Riders will navigate 108.7 miles worth of roads for the Strade Bianche which starts and finishes in the Italian city of Siena and will be part of the competition’s calendar for the first time.

In the men’s race, UCI World Champion Peter Sagan of Slovakia is among the cyclists who will take on the course.

He will be coming up against the Rio 2016 Olympic Games champion Greg van Avermaet and will be looking to reverse the result of their last race, which saw the Belgian beat Sagan on home soil at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad on February 25.

Another challenger for the prize in Italy will be Czech Republic national Zdeněk Štybar, who won the race two years ago before finishing second in 2016 behind double Olympic time-trial champion Fabian Cancellara.

To celebrate his achievements, organisers unveiled a special milestone along part of the course featuring his name, with Cancellara attending a ceremony today where the mark was revealed.

The women’s race will also take place tomorrow, with the route being 78.9 miles long.

Last year’s winner Lizzie Deignan is part of the field and the British rider will come up against World Champion Amalie Dideriksen of Denmark.

Olympic road race gold medallist from Rio 2016 Anna van der Breggen of The Netherlands is also participating.
