Cuba Domadores must overturn a 3-2 deficit if they are to reach a fourth consecutive World Series of Boxing final, with the semi-finals due to conclude over the next two days.

The Colombia Heroicos claimed a 3-2 advantage over the defending champions in the first leg of their semi-final at the Atlantico Plaza Principal De Soledad last week.

It was the second time the Colombians have beaten the Cubans this season, after also claiming a win in the group stages.

The second leg is due to take place on Friday (June 9), with Cuba hosting at Coliseo Ciudad Deportiva in Havana.

Rio 2016 silver medallist light-flyweight Yuberjen Martinez, the Dominican Republic’s Leonel De Los Santos and Jorge Luis Vivas all secured victories for the Heroicos in the first leg of the semi-final.

Andy Cruz and Erislandy Savon, a bronze medallist at Rio 2016, gave the Domadores some hope of progressing after winning their respective bouts.

In the other semi-final, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan have one foot in the final after they claimed a sensational 4-1 win over last year's runners-up British Lionhearts at the Kostanay Sport Palace last week.

The two teams met in the last four of the competition in 2016 with the British team claiming a 7-3 victory.

However, a similar outcome looks unlikely.

Astana raced into a 4-0 lead on home soil with Temirtas Zhussupov, Ilyas Suleimenov, Dilmurat Mizhitov and Abilkhan Amankul all winning.

The British team did manage to hang on to a glimmer of hope going into the second leg, following a victory in the heavyweight contest.

New Zealand representative David Nyika secured a unanimous victory over Anton Pinchuk, a 2014 Asian Games winner and recently crowned Asian champion.

The second leg is scheduled for tomorrow at York Hall in London.
