Sweden and Switzerland won relay titles in Latvia ©IOF

Sweden's second string upstaged their first team to win men's relay gold at the International Orienteering Federation World Cup in Latvia.

Jonas leandersson, Albin Ridefelt and William Lind triumphed in Cēsis as the leading Swedish trio could only come fourth.

Ridefelt came in first at the end of the second leg after taking over in sixth position, and Lind then came home to win comfortably by more than a minute.

The winning time was 2 hours 6min 21sec.

Switzerland came second as the reigning overall individual World Cup champion Matthias Kyburz teamed up with this season's standings leader Daniel Hubmann and Florian Howald to clock 2:07:29.

Russia's team of Dmitrii Nakonechnyi, Valentin Novikov and Dmitry Tsvetkov were timed at 2:07:52 for third place.

In the women's relay there was Swiss gold as Elena Roos, Julia Gross and Sabine Hauswirth finished in 1:43:35.

Sabine Hauswirth was able to hold off Sweden's defending individual champion Tove Alexandersson on the last leg to seal the victory.

Alexandersson, alongside Sara Hagström and Emma Johansson, won silver in 1:43.36.

Finland's Kirsi Nurmi, Miia Niittynen and Anna Haataja came third in 1:45.25.

Sprint events will be held at the World Cup tomorrow.
