Australia's Jessica Fox will hope to take advantage of the absence of key rivals as she looks to extend her overall lead in the Canoe Slalom World Cup women's C1 rankings in Ivrea.

The event at the Italian course will be the fourth of the International Canoe Federation's World Cup series, following competitions in Prague, Augsburg and Markkleeberg.

Fox had a stuttering start to the series when she missed out on the Prague final due to a 50 second penalty obtained during the qualifying phase.

The Australian, who is the reigning world champion in the discipline, bounced back by winning the next two stages to assume the overall lead.

Her efforts for a third straight victory could be enhanced by the absence of British canoeists Mallory Franklin and Kimberley Woods.

Fox will also hope to put up a strong challenge in the K1 competition.

Ricarda Funk will be the favourite as she eyes a hat-trick of triumphs, with the German currently leading the women's standings.

She will expect to face the challenge of Rio 2016 silver medallist Luuka Jones of New Zealand, as well as Olympic bronze medallist Fox.

Home hopes will be high in the men's K1 competition, as Giovanni De Gennaro will bid for victory.

The Italian has previously won his local World Cup and heads into the competition on a high after triumphing in Markkleeberg last month.

Overall leader Sebastian Schubert will be eyeing a first victory, with the German finishing second, third and fourth at World Cups so far.

The men's C1 competition will see another German seek to extend their series lead, but Sideris Tasiadis will come under pressure from Michal Martikan and Matej Benus.

The Slovakian paddlers earned wins at Markkleeberg and Augsburg respectively, while Tasiadis won the opener in Prague.

Jonas Kaspar and Marek Sindler of the Czech Republic are favourites in the men's C2 class.

Action in Ivrea will begin with qualification tomorrow, before finals take place on September 2 and 3.

It will be the penultimate World Cup of the season, with the fifth event at La Seu D'Urgell in Spain bringing matters to a close next month.

The ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships will then be held in Pau from September 23 to October 1.
