Rio 2016 silver medallist Yin Junhua is through to the featherweight semi-finals at the Asian Women's Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam after beating home favourite Vy Vuong Thi today.

The Chinese fighter, who came second to France’s Estelle Mossely in the lightweight division at last year’s Olympic Games, triumphed 5-0 at the Nguyen Du Indoor Stadium.

Awaiting her in the penultimate round is Chinese Taipei’s Huang Hsiao-Wen, who beat Sri Lanka’s Kasthuri Arachchige Keshani Hansika by the same scoreline.

The other semi-final pits world silver medallist Sonia Lather of India against Uzbekistan’s Yodgoroy Mirzaeva after both came through their bouts today.

Lather beat Kazakhstan’s Nazym Ichshanova 3-2, while Mirzaeva defeated South Korea’s Ko Hyun Young 5-0.

It was not only Yin who secured a win for China today with light welterweight Dou Dan stopping Sri Lanka’s P Galbokka Hewage Thanuja Nilakshi in the third round of their contest and welterweight Gu Hong beating Uzbekistan’s Gavkhar Mirzaeva 5-0.

India also had considerable success with light welterweight Laishram Sarita Devi and welterweight Lovlina Borgohain joining Lather in reaching the semi-finals.

Sarita Devi defeated Uzbekistan’s Maftunakhon Melieva 5-0 before Borgohain won by the same margin against Mongolia’s Erdenetuya Enkhbaatar.

There was disappointment for fellow Indian Neeraj, however, as she lost 5-0 to North Korea’s Pang Chol Mi in the flyweight quarter-finals.

Action in Ho Chi Minh City is due to continue on Tuesday (November 7) when the semi-finals across all 10 weight categories are set to be held.
