Argentina will aim to defend their Women's Hockey World League title when the final competition begins tomorrow in Auckland.

Action is set to take place at the North Harbour Hockey Stadium, with the eight teams who qualified via the Hockey World League Semi-Finals in Brussels and Johannesburg set to take part.

Argentina emerged as the winners of the last edition of the event back in 2015, when they won the final 5-1 against New Zealand in front of home crowd in Rosario.

They edged into this season’s finals tournament by finishing fourth at the Semi-Finals in Johannesburg.

Having been drawn in Pool B, the Pan American champions are set to face the challenge of world number two ranked England, Olympic bronze medallists Germany and China, who won Asian Cup silver earlier this month.

Hosts New Zealand will be hoping to go one better than they managed in 2015 and claim gold in front of a home crowd.

They face a daunting test against world number one ranked The Netherlands in Pool B, with their rivals having dominated the semi-final stage in Brussels.

The Dutch, who were silver medallists at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, won all seven matches to win the event with ease.

Following their success, The Netherlands maintained their form by winning the European title.

The United States and South Korea have also been placed in Pool B for the tournament.

They will contest the opening match tomorrow, before New Zealand take on The Netherlands in the late match of the day.

Pool A action will then begin on Saturday (November 8).

All eight teams will compete in the quarter-finals on November 22, with the last four matches taking place the following day.

The gold and bronze medal matches will take place on November 26, with the winners securing a spot in the Hockey Champions Trophy.
