Austria claimed two gold medals on the opening day of the World Para Alpine Skiing World Cup in Zagreb.

It came on a day of slalom competition across the three male and three female categories.

Martin Wuerz claimed an impressive win over French rising star Arthur Bauchet in the men's standing division.

The Austrian crossed in 1min 52.39 to defeat his teenage rival by 0.17 seconds.

Aleksei Bugaev produced the quickest run of the day when clocking 54.45 second time down, but the Russian's first run, which was only 10th fastest, meant he had to settle for third overall in 1:52.60.

Claudia Loesch also triumphed in the women's sitting competition by a mammoth 11.93 seconds after crossing in 2:07.68.

Stephani Victor was the only other athlete in the field, so the Swiss skier won silver by default in 2:19.61.

France's Marie Bochet made up for Bauchet's disappointment by winning the women's standing class in 2:01.78.

Petra Smarzova of Slovakia placed second in 2:10.55 as Russia's Mariia Papulova - like Bugaev, competing as a neutral athlete - finished third in 2:11.93.

Jakub Krako of Slovakia edged another neutral athlete in Valerii Redkozubov to triumph in the men's visually impaired event.

Krako clocked 1:51.50 to prevail in 1.41 as Giacomo Bertagnolli finished a further 0.45 behind in third.

Henrieta Farkasova completed a Slovak visually impaired double as she won the corresponding women's event in 2:00.75.

Silver went to Melissa Perrine of Australia, 5.98 seconds behind, as Yang Jae-rim of South Korea took bronze in 2:14.08.
