The final day of swimming action was dominated by Panama ©Managua 2018

Lino Lozada of Panama struck gold in the men's 100 metres S14 backstroke event as Panama enjoyed a successful day at the Para Central American Games in Managua.

Lozada touched the wall in 1min 29.06sec to clinch a dominant victory at the Michele Richardson Complex in the Nicaraguan capital.

Miguel Melgar of El Salvador was over five seconds adrift as he came through to take silver, while the bronze medal went to Nicaraguan Jonathan Martinez.

Lozada's team-mate Carlos Agudo triumphed in the men's 100m S14 breaststroke in 1:35.13, with El Salvador's Javier Franco doing enough for silver.

Cristian Pérez delivered a medal for the host nation as he claimed bronze.

Agudo then spearheaded a Nicaraguan one-two in the 50m S14 freestyle, beating Lozada with a time of 29.27sec.

Lozada was denied his second gold medal on the final day of swimming action at the Games as he was forced to settle for silver.

El Salvador's Erick Hernández was the recipient of the bronze medal.

Hernández's compatriot Katherine Avala topped the podium in the women's 50m S14 freestyle race, overcoming Panama's Melody Brooms and Xiomara Moreno, silver and bronze medallists respectively.

Athletics action also continued today as Anastasio Stephen continued the Panamanian success by clinching gold in the 200m T12 event in 24.71.

Ana Galvez won the corresponding women's event in 32.98 to add another medal to Panama's tally at the IND Olympic Stadium.

Around 250 athletes are expected to compete at the second edition of the Para Central American Games, which are due to conclude on Sunday (January 28).
