Bangladesh ended India’s domination of the Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup by beating their rivals in the final of the competition at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur.

India had triumphed in all six of the editions of the tournament to date, with their team having been yet to taste defeat in a match at the event prior to this year’s competition.

That record was ended by Bangladesh in the group stage in Malaysia, with both teams ultimately progressing to the final with four wins and one loss from their five games.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to field in the final as they chased another upset win over India.

Only four Indian players were able to reach double figures during their innings, with Bangladesh restricting them to 112-9 from the 20 overs.

India would be thankful to their captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who contributed exactly half of their runs, with her 56 potentially looking crucial.

Bangladesh’s top order would all contribute towards the chase, with their first five batsmen all scoring double figures.

Nigar Sultana and Rumana Ahmed proved key to their pursuit of victory, as they top scored for Bangladesh with 27 and 23 respectively.

Bangladesh would require nine runs heading into the final over of the match to claim victory, but lost two wickets as the tension increased.

Jahanara Alam was left to face the crucial final ball of the innings, with Bangladesh trailing by one run.

She was able to score the two runs required for them to reach the target of 113 and secure their maiden Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup title.

Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand and hosts Malaysia were the other four teams to participate in the Asian Cricket Council tournament.

Bangladesh are set to compete at the Women's World Twenty20 qualifier in The Netherlands next month.

The top two teams at the event will qualify.
