Russia's Gulnaz Gubaydullina and Uliana Batashova topped their respective qualification standings as the women's individual event begun today at the European Modern Pentathlon Championships in Székesfehérvár.

Gubaydullina won Group A with a total of 1,023 points in the Hungarian city. 

Italy's Alice Sotero and France's Marie Oteiza ranked second and third respectively with the same score.

In Group B, Batashova prevailed with 1,034 points.

Home favourite Sarolta Kovacs finished second with the same score.

Great Britain's Kate French completed the top three with 1,033 points, a total which fourth-placed Polina Matyukhevich of Georgia and fifth-placed Valeria Permykina of Ukraine both matched. 

The women's final is due to be held on Saturday (July 21).

Men's qualification is scheduled to take place tomorrow with the final on Sunday (July 22).
