Slovenia's defending overall lead champion Janja Garnbret was the star women's qualifier as the International Federation of Sport Climbing World Cup began in Arco in Italy.

Garnbret, who won at the last leg of the campaign in Briancon in France and heads this season's rankings, was the only climber to reach the top in both qualification rounds.

It puts her in good shape for tomorrow's semi-finals and final at Arco's Climbing Stadium.

Belgium's Anak Verhoeven was the only other athlete to top today, doing so in the second qualification round.

Men's rankings leader Austria's Jakob Schubert was one of two climbers to achieve two tops in their competition.

Czech Republic's Adam Ondra also achieved the feat with six other athletes topping in one of the rounds.

As well as the lead finals, tomorrow will also see speed competitions begin in Arco.

Sport climbing is preparing for its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.
