Hosts Brazil dominated proceedings on the final day of the Pan American Karate Federation Junior, Cadet and Under-21 Championships in Rio de Janeiro.

The home country won all four of the women’s junior kumite titles, and three of the five equivalent men’s titles, as well as winning the men’s under-21 kumite team gold.

Brazil’s Vitoria Sarmento got the hosts onto the golden road at Arena Carioca 1 as she beat Yamina Lahyanssa of Canada 8-0 in the under-48 kilogram category.

Carolaini Pereira of Brazil won the under-53kg class, beating Destiny Vergara of Puerto Rico 6-0.

Anna Prezzoti of Brazil claimed the under-59kg division title, defeating Nomis Rodriguez of Venezuela 3-1.

Hellen Rodrigues then completed the sweep as she won the over-59kg class from Michelle Fonseca of Puerto Rico.

Brazil’s winner’s in the men’s junior kumite were Andre Dos Santos, who took the under-68kg title with a 3-0 win over Argentina’s Juan Salsench, Eric Taira, who beat Jared Smith of the United States 2-0 in the under-76kg final, and Guilerme Silva, who defeated Santiago Malian of Uruguay in the over-76kg category.

Michael Plunkett of Canada won the under-55kg class with a 5-3 scoreline over Chile’s Victor Jara.

Pedropablo De La Roca of Guatemala took under-61kg gold in beating Enrique Villalon of Chile 3-2.

Brazil won the men’s Under-21 kumite team event with a 2-1 scoreline over Chile, and the women’s under-21 team title went to Mexico, who were 2-0 winners over the US.
