Home fighter Suphisara Konlak got the better of Russia's Vera Buga in one of the most eagerly-anticipated contests on day four of the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur World Championships in Bangkok.

Konlak triumphed 30-27 in a repeat of last year's women's elite A 48 kilograms final at the Sports Authority of Thailand venue.

Victory earns her a place in the semi-finals, where she will face Australia's Sze Sze Rowlinson on Saturday (July 27).

Rowlinson beat Morocco's Belouarrat Oumaima 30-27 in their last-four encounter today.

The other semi-final pits Finland's Tessa Kakkonen against Turkey's Gulistan Turan.

Kakkonen defeated Ukraine's Hanna Avakova 30-27, while Turan overcame Singapore's Cheryl Gwa 29-28.

Among today's other winners was world champion Jimmy Vienot of France as he booked his place in the penultimate round of the men's elite A 75kg event with a 29-28 victory over Turkey's Enis Yunusoğlu.

Standing between him and a place in the final is Spain's Nayanesh Parikh Bumba, who had a walkover win against Nepal's Susan Pun.

Also on the brink of reaching the final are Lebanon's Youssef Abboud and Ukraine's Volodymyr Baryshev.
