FIFA has appointed a Normalisation Committee for the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) following the recent resignation of President Hany Abou Rida and its entire board.

Rida and the EFA board quit in the immediate aftermath of Egypt's exit from this year's Africa Cup of Nations, which the country hosted.

They resigned en masse after a shock 1-0 defeat by South Africa in the round of 16.

The mandate of the Normalisation Committee, to be fulfilled by the end of July next year at the latest, includes running the daily affairs of the EFA.

It must also review the national governing body's statutes to ensure their compliance with the FIFA statutes and requirements, and to ensure their adoption by the EFA Congress.

The Normalisation Committee will be composed of chairman Amr Youssef Hassan El Ganainy, deputy chairman Gamal Mohamed Ali and three members - Sahar Abdel Hak Ahmed, Mohamed Fadl Zahran and Ahmed Abdallah Rady.

Fadl Zahran was chief executive of the Organising Committee for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

"While the aforementioned persons will assume their duties with immediate effect, all members of the Normalisation Committee must pass an eligibility check to be carried out by the FIFA Review Committee in accordance with the FIFA governance regulations," a statement from FIFA, which had a mission visit to Cairo, read.

"Their confirmation will be contingent upon the outcome of the eligibility check.

"As the Normalisation Committee will also act as an electoral committee, none of its members can be eligible for any of the open positions in the elections under any circumstances.

"The specified period of time during which the Normalisation Committee will perform its functions shall expire no later than July 31, 2020, or as soon as it has fulfilled all of its tasks."

Egyptian football was beset by problems under Rida’s three-year reign, with the decision to use Grozny in Chechnya as base for the team’s disastrous campaign at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where they lost all three games, attracting criticism.

Star player Mohamed Salah accused the EFA of misusing his image in Egypt, while the reinstatement of Amr Warda to the squad on the eve of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations provoked further criticism after he had initially been excluded for disciplinary reasons.

The 25-year-old, who plays for Greek club PAOK, was suspended after social media conversations between him and a number of women were released.

He has apologised to family, friends and team-mates in a video on Twitter.
