The Nicaragua Softball Federation President (FENISOFT) Roberto Espinoza has died, at age 70.

Espinoza led FENISOFT for 34 years and served as third vice-president of the Nicaragua National Olympic Committee.

"On behalf of everyone at WBSC (World Baseball Softball Confederation), I would like to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the Espinoza family and the Federación Nicaraguense de Softbol for their loss," WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari said.

"Roberto Espinoza has been a great member of WBSC who has helped Nicaraguan sport massively by contributing significantly to the growth of softball in the region."

"I'm very saddened on the passing of Roberto Espinoza, a tremendous leader and a friend of mine for almost 15 years," added Tommy Velazquez, WBSC Softball Chairman.

"What a great loss to the softball world.

"He will be missed by so many - my deepest sympathies to Roberto's wife Marbel Gamboa and his family for this great loss."

Espinoza was first elected FENISOFT President in 1985, and played a pivotal role during the Central American Games Managua 2017, hosting the softball events where Nicaragua's women’s squad earned the silver medal.
