Rio 2016 Olympic champion Tina Trstenjak of Slovenia claimed her third gold medal at the European Championships in the women's under-63 kilogram category, with a win over Russian Daria Davydova on day two of competition in Portugal's capital Lisbon.

The top seed claimed her third European title, with her last coming in 2017.

Slovenia's Andreja Leski defeated Agata Ozdoba-Blach of Poland and Dutch judoka Sanne Vermeer beat Laura Fazliu of Kosovo for the bronze medals.

Dutch judoka Sanne Van Dijke won her second European title after winning gold in 2017, with a women's under-70kg win over France's Margaux Pinot in the final.

Portugal's Barbara Timo came through the repechage to win the bronze medal in a bout against Croatian Lara Cvjetko, with Russia's Madina Taimazova requiring the same pathway to win her bronze, as she emerged victorious against Kim Polling of The Netherlands.

France's world champion Marie-Eve Gahié suffered an early exit in the second round to Cvjetko.

Kosovo won their second gold medal of the weekend, thanks to Akil Gjakova in the men's under-73kg.

His victory over Israel's top seed Tohar Butbul gave him his first European medal of his career.

Musa Mogushkov of Russia won bronze with a win over Turkey's Bilal Çiloğlu, with the other bronze going to Nils Stump of Switzerland after his victory over Giovanni Esposito of Italy.

Finally, Turkey's 2018 world bronze medallist Vedat Albayrak claimed his first European title in the men's under-81kg with a win over Belgium's 2019 European champion Matthias Casse.

Israel's reigning world champion Sagi Muki had a surprise exit in the quarter-finals, but fought through the repechage to claim a bronze medal with a win over Bulgaria's Ivaylo Ivanov, while Italian Christian Parlati defeated Anri Egutidze for the other spot on the podium.

Tomorrow marks the last day of competition with three men's and two women's categories still to go.
