Portugal's João Almeida of Deceuninck-Quick-Step played it safe to ensure he sealed the 2021 Tour de Pologne title on the final day in Kraków.

He won the 78th edition of the race after a flat final stage of 145.1 kilometres from Zabrze in Poland.

Dutch rider Julius van den Berg of EF Education–Nippo led a successful breakaway in the closing stages, outsprinting France's Alexis Renard of Israel Start-Up Nation for the final stage win in 2 hours 58min 46sec.

American Matteo Jorgenson of Movistar was third and Italian Gianni Moscon of Ineos Grenadiers was fourth, three seconds ahead of the rest of the front pack.

Almeida, who is set to move to UAE Team Emirates next year, claimed his first overall stage race victory, following fourth and sixth place finishes at the Giro d'Italia in 2020 and 2021.

Slovenian Matej Mohorič of Bahrain Victorious was second overall, 20 seconds adrift of the 23-year-old Almeida.

Polish rider and home favourite Michał Kwiatkowski of Ineos Grenadiers was third overall, 27 seconds behind the winner.

Italian Diego Ulissi of UAE Team Emirates was fourth, 37 seconds behind, while Danish rider Mikkel Frølich Honoré of Deceuninck-Quick-Step was fifth.

Belgium's Tim Wellens of Lotto-Soudal, Australia's Jai Hindley of Team DSM, Belgium's Dylan Teuns of Bahrain Victorious, Britain's Ben Tulett of Alpecin-Fenix and Dutch rider Pascal Eenkhoorn of Team Jumbo-Visma completed the top 10.
