Hosts Russia dominated the early stages of the Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Countries in Kazan, winning 19 gold medals across the first three days of action.

Despite the Opening Ceremony not taking place until today, Russia has made the most of the early finish of the wrestling, winning 19 of 26 gold medals.

Dinislam Bammatov opened the Russian account in the 60-kilogram category, with Firuz Mirzorajabov of Tajikistan taking silver and Nihat Mammadli of Azerbaijan winning bronze.

"In the final, I turned on my character, suffered and was able to win," said Bammatov via CISKazan2021.

On the first day of medal action, Russia also claimed golds in the 72kg, 77kg, 82kg and the 87kg categories. 

One of those gold medal winners was world junior champion Islam Aliyev in the 77kg category.

Pavel Glinchuk and Gleb Makarenko earned Belarus' two golds thus far, in the 97kg and 63kg divisions respectively, while Sarkhan Mammadov, Hasrat Jafarov and Nihad Guluzade of Azerbaijan won gold in the 130kg, 67kg and 55kg categories across the first two days of action.

Azerbaijan added its fourth gold medal of the Games today, and Kyrgyzstan won its first.

The boxing has also taken place over the first three days of action. 

Kazakhstan has 23 fighters into the semi-finals and secured of a bronze medal, with the medals decided tomorrow.

The Games of the CIS Countries will welcome around 1,500 athletes between the ages of 18 and 23 to compete for 184 medals across 16 sports.

Nine countries compete in the multi-sport event - Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.

The action continues tomorrow with 3x3 basketball and thai boxing making their first appearance. 

Belt wrestling will also take place on its only day of competition, while all the boxing medals will be decided as the sport draws to a close.
