The 2021 Sitting Volleyball World Cup has been postponed by the World ParaVolley Board due to COVID-19 concerns, as well as the limited number of entries so far.

It comes only a month after Egypt's capital Cairo was named the host for the competition, scheduled to take place from December 10 to 15 at the Cairo International Stadium.

Winning teams from the World Cup were set to be guaranteed a spot at the 2022 Sitting Volleyball World Championships in Hangzhou in China.

World ParaVolley President Barry Couzner made the announcement and confirmed that the hosts, ParaVolley Egypt, have been offered the opportunity to hold the event in March or April 2023.

"World ParaVolley anticipates that issues around COVID-19, travel, quarantining and vaccinations will be largely resolved by 2023 so that the 2023 Sitting Volleyball World Cup can proceed with ParaVolley Egypt as the host," said Couzner.

"The new World ParaVolley calendar produced by the Technical Commission has the World Cup being held every two years in between the Paralympic Games year and the World Championships year.

"This will provide our athletes with more regular high level competition.

"I wish to thank ParaVolley Egypt for their understanding and cooperation on this matter."

With the 2021 World Cup cancelled, teams will be qualified for the 2022 World Championships based on their world rankings on December 31 2021.
