Kenya’s Norah Jeruto and Burundi’s Rodrigue Kwizera claimed victories at the Cross Internacional de Italica in Santiponce.

Jeruto and Margaret Chelimo were among a strong women’s field for the race in Santiponce, a town situated near to Seville.

The two Kenyans contested the finish of the 7.9-kilometre event, after distancing their compatriot Beatrice Chebet in the final 1km.

Jeruto edged clear in the closing metres to secure victory in a time of 24min 22sec.

Defending champion Chelimo finished as the runner-up, crossing one second behind her successor.

An all-Kenyan podium was sealed by Chebet, who ended 24:25.

Kwizera emerged as the winner of the men’s 10.1km race at the World Athletics Cross Country Tour Gold event.

Kwizera had trailed defending champion Tadese Worku of Ethiopia heading into the final stages of the race.

The Burundi runner produced a strong finish to overtake Worku before the line and triumph in 28:33.

Worku ended one second back as the runner-up.

There was a gap to Ethiopia’s Nibret Melak, who finished in a time of 28:42.

Eritrea’s Aron Kifle, who triumphed at Atapuerca a week ago, ended place fourth in 28:49.
