Belgium's fifth seed Dimitri Van den Bergh has crashed out of the World Darts Championship at the first hurdle, losing to Germany's Florian Hempl in the second round.

Van den Bergh, who was one of the favourites for the Championship entering the competition, suffered a stuttering performance against Hempl, eventually losing 3-1.

In the two first-round matches of the day, there was a pair of 3-0 wins for Wales' teenage sensation Lewy Williams and England's Jason Lowe, defeating Japan's Toyokazu Shibata and Sweden's Daniel Larsson respectively.

In the round two matches in the afternoon, England's Dave Chisnall, the number 14 seed, eased past Belgium's Mike De Decker 3-0 and England's 21st seed Mervyn King came from two sets down to beat compatriot Ryan Joyce 3-2.
