Home favourite Petra Klingler reached the top hold to clinch women's lead gold at the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation's Ice Climbing World Championships in the Swiss resort of Saas-Fee, with France's Louna Ladevant win the equivalent men's title.

Klingler was only the sixth-best performer in the semi-finals at the Ice Dome, but excelled in the final as she was the only climber to make the top.

The Russian Mountaineering Federation's Anastasiia Astakhova was the joint lowest-ranked of the eight athletes who progressed from the semi-final.

However, she too delivered a fine performance to score 16.280 and earn silver.

Franziska Schönbächler made it two Swiss climbers on the podium with a 15.250 effort, with compatriot Vivien Labarile her nearest challenger with 13.220.

In the men's lead final, the front three were some way ahead of the rest and the only athletes to reach double figures.

Ladevant top scored in the semi-finals with 16.300, and an 18.340 in the decider earned him first place.

Switzerland's Benjamin Bosshard placed second with a score of 17.310, while Frenchman Tristan Ladevant was third with 15.272.

Today was the final day of the World Championships.
