A new website celebrating squash’s association with the Commonwealth Games has launched in the run-up to Birmingham 2022.

squashcommonwealth.com has been created by Squash United, a legacy programme associated with Birmingham 2022 that aims to showcase and raise the profile of the sport.

The website includes details of projects planned in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games, such as the construction of an all glass squash show court at Birmingham New Street train station.

The court is due to be in place at the station’s main concourse for a week of activities from April 4 to 9.

The website also features profiles of key figures from squash’s involvement at previous Commonwealth Games, such as Australian Michelle Martin, the first gold medallist in the sport at a Commonwealth Games, when she won the women’s singles crown at Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

President of World Squash Zena Wooldridge said: "This bespoke website is the next exciting phase of the Squash United legacy project, a fabulous platform to showcase the impressive development work being driven by the Squash United group.

"The website is also a valuable launch-pad to unite Commonwealth squash nations behind the legacy project, so they too are able to use the Birmingham Games as a catalyst to grow the sport and inspire a new generation of squash enthusiasts."

Chief executive of England Squash Mark Williams added: "We needed a highly visible platform to share and promote the excellent work of the Squash United group.

"This brand-new website is a brilliant way to bring together all the information about the many activities we are undertaking together and will help the whole squash community shout about the amazing work being done to promote and grow the game.

"For those new to squash, it provides the ideal resource to find out about the sport, the Commonwealth Games and crucially, how they can get involved in our brilliant game themselves."

Squash competition at Birmingham 2022 is scheduled to take place at the University of Birmingham Hockey and Squash Centre.
