Their team of Michael Klimke, Christoph Koschel, Lars Ligus and Frederic Wandres finished the competition with a score of 433.337 per cent better than United States in second with 432.265.

Third place went to Canada with a score of 409.091 per cent.

Klimke, 52, took his team to the top along with his partner gelding Harmony’s Sanrino RHP by winning the Grand Prix with a score of 72.652 from the judges.

"Last year it was a really big surprise, and it motivated us for this year," said Klimke.

"We all had a top day yesterday, and today it got very close again."

The duo Wandres and Dolciario achieved the best day two result by winning the Intermediate I and earning a score of 73.176.

"The team can only be successful if all of us are fighting until the end, and we really did that," Wandres said.

"[Dolciario] is just eight years old, and this is his first CDI tour this season.

"I was already very happy yesterday, but today was his first Intermediate I."

The United States put all their efforts in the Grand Prix Special to keep the scores close to Germany by having twenty-two-year-old Ben Ebeling along with his mare Indeed on the podium with a winning score of 73.649. 

"I think my teammates can be really happy with their rides," Ebeling said.

"I’m certainly very happy with my ride. 

"I love riding Indeed.

"I think it’s so much about my riding, but more about my coaching, from Christoph Koschel and also my dad Jan Ebeling, who did a fantastic job training this horse.

"I’m just lucky that I get to ride her.

"She’s got a lot of power in there and today you could really see it, and I really felt it. For me, that’s something that I’m really excited about."

American Bianca Berktold won the Prix St. Geroges with a score of 72.441 and finished second in the Intermediate I with 72.676.

With only three teams competing against each other, Wellington's leg will not provide series points. 

The FEI Dressage Nations Cup season is set to continue from May 5 to 8 at Mariakalnok, Hungary.
