Egyptians Ali Farag and Nouran Gohar are the top seeds for the Tournament of Champions, which is set to start tomorrow at Grand Central Station in New York City.

World champion Farag goes into the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour Gold event seeking his second title in New York.

Farag was victorious at this venue in 2019, coming from two games down to defeat compatriot Mohamed ElShorbagy 10-12, 6-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-8 in the final.

ElShorbagy, the world number three, will not be in New York, nor will New Zealand's world number one Paul Coll.

World number two Farag is the top seed in the men's tournament, with world number four and fellow Egyptian Mostafa Asal the second seed.

Asal is the US Open champion and has reached the semi-finals in seven of his past eight PSA events.

Qatar Classic winner Diego Elías from Peru is the third seed and world number 10 Mazen Hesham of Egypt is the fourth seed.

Women's world number one Gohar leads the way in the other tournament and is in great form - having three titles to her name so far this year.

Amanda Sobhy will be the United States' best chance of a home victory, starting as the second seed and world number four.

Her best performance so far at the Tournament of Champions was finishing second to Egyptian Nour El Sherbini in 2016.

Other top-10 players in the competition are Egyptians Salma Hany - the world number seven - and Rowan Elaraby, the world number eight.

A week-long tournament, the finals are scheduled to take place next Saturday (May 7).
