Olympic gold medal winning skip Niklas Edin is among the stars set to feature at the Champions Cup in Olds, which is due to bring the Grand Slam of Curling season to a close.

Edin guided the Swedish men's team to victory at Beijing 2022 and at the World Championships in Las Vegas in April, and leads the team from Karlstad at the Olds Sportsplex in the Canadian city.

They are one of 12 men's teams featuring at the Champions Cup, with Britain's Olympic silver medallist Bruce Mouat guiding his team from Scotland's capital Edinburgh to victory at this event last year.

Mouat was also victorious at the first Grand Slam of the year - the Masters in Oakville - and last month's Players' Championship in Toronto.

Brad Gushue of Canada guided his team from St John's to Olds courtesy of victory in the Grand Slam of Curling National in November last year, the second event of the season.

Gushue took bronze competing for his country at Beijing 2022.

On the women's side, Canadian curler Kerri Einarson led her team from Gimli to victory at the last year's Players' Championship.

Her compatriot Rachel Homan skipped the team from Ottawa which won last year's Champions Cup.

Sweden's Anna Hasselborg, the Olympic bronze medallist at Beijing 2022 and champion at Pyeongchang 2018, guided the team from Sundbyberg to success at the Players' Championship last month, although they had already qualified by virtue of winning the National in November.

Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland skips the team from Aarau which qualified after taking gold at last year's World Championships, a title they defended in Prince George in March.

The women's tournament at the Champions Cup also features two teams.

Teams are due to play five matches between tomorrow and Friday (May 6) prior to the tiebreaks if required on Saturday (May 7), which are scheduled to be followed by the quarter-finals and semi-finals.

Both finals are then due to be held on Sunday (May 8).
