Giovanni Cernogoraz was at his Olympic gold medal-winning best at the shotgun International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Grand Prix in Konya as he triumphed in the men's trap event.

The Croatian London 2012 Olympic champion was the joint-top performer in qualifying yesterday with a perfect score of 75 from his first three rounds.

He finished qualifying today as the third-best performer with scores of 24 and 22 from his rounds at the Trap and Skeet Shooting Range in Konya.

Cernogoraz progressed through his ranking match in second place behind London 2012 silver medallist Massimo Fabbrizi of Italy with a score of 22.

However, he saved his best form for the final, taking gold with 33 successful attempts from 35 targets.

Kuwait's Naser Meqlad was second with 31.

Fabbrizi scored 22 from 25 targets to place third, with the other finalist Valerio Grazini of Italy notching 13 from 15.

Gold in the women's trap went to Kuwait's Sarah Alhawal, who only progressed through qualifying ranked eighth after a shoot-off.

Victory was her first podium finish at an ISSF event since 2018.

Adeline Couet of France placed second, with Italy's Giulia Grassia completing the podium, as both earned their first ISSF medals.

The mixed team trap is scheduled to take place tomorrow, followed by a training day on Saturday (June 18) before the scheduled start of the skeet competitions on Sunday (June 19).
