Beijing 2008 Olympic medallist Ian Miller has been named as the technical advisor of the Canadian national show jumping team before the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

Millar will be joining the team in the new role, with focus on Paris 2024 Olympic Games as well.

The 12-time national champion of Canada four Pan American Games gold medals.

The 76-year-old is set to replace Eric Lamaze, who has been battling brain cancer since 2017.

Millar and Lamaze won team jumping gold for Canada at the home Pan American Games in 2015.

"I’ve never had any prouder moments than anchoring a Canadian team," Millar said.

"Representing our country, that has motivated me from the beginning.

"This role is impossible to do alone.

"It takes everyone involved - horses, riders, grooms, owners, EC, the Canadian Olympic Committee, Own the Podium, sponsors, backers, everybody that’s involved - it’s a huge group effort and everyone has to work together to make it happen.

"I believe that I have the support."

Equestrian has featured at every Pan American Games since its debut at inaugural edition in 1951 Buenos Aires.

Canada is second on the overall equestrian medals table at the Pan American Games with 20 gold, 22 silver and 14 bronze medals.

The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games are scheduled to be held from October 20 to November 5.
