India and Sri Lanka claimed seven-wicket victories against Pakistan and Bangladesh respectively on the third day of matches at the International Cricket Council Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa.

In the first of a double header at Six Gun Grill Newlands in Cape Town, India, runners-up to Australia at the previous edition in 2020, faced arch-rivals Pakistan in Group B.

After choosing to bat Pakistan compiled 149 for four off their 20 overs, with captain Bisma Maroof top scoring with an unbeaten 68 off 55 balls, including seven fours.

She compiled a partnership of 79 runs with Ayesha Naseem, who finished unbeaten on 43.

In reply India chased down their target with an over to spare as they finished on 151 for three.

Jemimah Rodrigues finished unbeaten on 53 runs off 38 balls, with eight fours, including a partnership of 58 with wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh, who made 31 not out.

Rodrigues and Ghosh partnership included a combined 27 runs off overs 17 and 18, before they struck 14 off the next over with their brutal hitting getting India over the line.

In the second match of the day Sri Lanka earned their second win of the tournament, overcoming Bangladesh by seven wickets in Group A.

After choosing to bat, Bangladesh struggled to 126 for eight, with Sobhana Mostary top scoring with 29.

Bangladesh lost wickets regularly throughout their innings, with Oshadi Ranasinghe the most effective with the ball for Sri Lanka as she took three wickets for 23 runs.

Sri Lanka got off to a bad start in their reply slumping to 25 for three after three wickets in the space of two overs for Marufa Akter.

Harshitha Madavi and Nilakshi de Silva then put on a partnership of 104 runs for the fourth wicket, as Sri Lanka got home with ten balls remaining.

Madavi ended on an unbeaten 69 off 50 balls, while de Silva finished on 41 not out from 38 deliveries faced.

Two more matches are scheduled tomorrow at Boland Park in Paarl, with England set to take on Ireland before hosts South Africa face New Zealand.
