World number four McLain Ward is looking to regain his show jumping title in front of a home crowd at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) World Cup Finals in the American city of Omaha while dressage and vaulting events are also scheduled.

The event is due to begin tomorrow at the CHI Health Center Omaha in Nebraska before culminating on April 8.

The double Olympic champion Ward is among nine American riders competing in the show jumping as a total of 40 athletes from 19 countries go for the gold.

The 47-year-old won the final in Omaha in 2017 and this year he is bringing another mare, in the form of Callas, for his title charge.

Outside of the home nation, there is a solid field including the top three in the world Swede Henrik von Eckermann, defending champion Martin Fuchs of Germany, and France's Julien Epaillard.

In the dressage final, there are 17 competitors from 11 countries.

The United States earned three competition slots which have been filled by Steffen Peters, Anna Buffini and Alice Tarjan.

Defending champion and double Tokyo 2020 gold medallist from Germany Jessica von Bredow-Werndl will be competing with TSF Dalera BB.

She faces a tough task to triumph again as the Netherlands' Dinja van Liere and compatriot Isabell Werth are also in action.

Seven-time Olympic gold medallist Werth took bronze last year in Leipzig with a score of 85.921 per cent while Denmark's Cathrine Dufour finished second on 86.164 per cent, but neither could come close to Von Bredow-Werndl's 90.836 per cent.

This year's event is the first time in the event's history that the Vaulting World Cup Final will take place in North America.

The discipline combines "the acrobatics of gymnastics with showmanship comparable to Cirque du Soleil".

Athletes are known to express themselves through choreography, costuming and music in their routines.
