Israel won the junior groups all-around gold medal at the 2023 European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships here.

The team of Shelly Elguy, Elinor Gerts, Kseniya Kulyk, Yuval Schulman, Anat Shnaider and Maayan Meital Sumkin scored a total of 61.600 points to take the top spot on the podium.

The five ropes routine saw Israel score 30.500 before adding 31.100 in the five balls routine.

Bulgarians Eva Emilova, Vanesa Emilova, Andrea Ivanova, Krasimira Ivanova, Gabriela Peeva and Tsveteyoana Peycheva came second, with 59.250 points.

Hosts Azerbaijan, featuring Govhar Ibrahimova, Sakinakhanim Ismayilzada, Madina Aslanova, Ilaha Bahadirova, Ayan Sadigova and Zahra Jafarova, rounded off the final podium place after their effort fetched them 58.450.

The Ukrainians were unlucky to miss out on a medal by 0.200 points.

The Bulgarian team scored 30.450 in the five ropes and backed it up with 28.800 in the five balls.

Hosts managed to record 29.450 in the five ropes and scored 29.000 in the five balls.

Italy was disqualified after fielding the wrong gymnast in the five balls exercise.

In the junior groups five ropes final, the Bulgarians triumphed after a score of 30.500.

Israel was unlucky, losing out by only 0.100 points.

The Italians made up for their mix up in the all-around event by winning bronze with a score of 29.550.

Azerbaijan managed to finish fourth with 28.500, with Germany completing the top five, with 27.950 points.

Bulgarians edged Israel for the five balls final as well, scoring 32.100 points.

The Israeli team missed out by 0.200 points.

Azerbaijan added one more medal to their tally by finishing third, with a score of 31.200.

The competition is due to continue tomorrow with the senior individual hoop and ball qualifiers.
