A National Women's Open tournament in taekwondo has been scheduled in the Ivory Coast ©FITKD

The Ivorian Taekwondo Federation is to hold a National Women's Open tournament.

The event in Abidjan is aimed at promoting women's taekwondo, with athletes aged between 12 and 60 eligible to take part.

Both kyorugi and poomsae taekwondo are due to be contested across two days, on June 17 and 18.

Registration for the event is now open.

Ivory Coast has enjoyed success in women's taekwondo, in particular through Ruth Gbagbi.

She won the world title in the women's under-62 kilograms division at the 2017 World Championships in Muju in South Korea.

Gbagbi also won Olympic bronze medals at under-67kg at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

Other successes include at the African Games and African Championships, as well as the Wuxi Grand Slam, the Moscow Grand Prix and the Sofia Grand Prix.
