Wuxi Grand Slam Champions Series Final winner Song Jie triumphed in the women's under-67 kilograms event in the Stadio Nicola Pietrangeli at the Foro Italico.

She beat Belgium's Sarah Chaari, who lost her under-62kg world title in Baku last week, in three rounds in the final.

Song won the first 5-2 before her opponent hit back 4-0.

In the decider, Song scored a three-point head kick with 25 seconds remaining and successfully appealed the three awarded to Chaari on a video review, then played out the remainder of the round to clinch a 3-1 victory and the gold medal.

France's under-67kg world champion Magda Wiet-Hénin had to settle for bronze after losing 6-5 and 6-2 in the semi-finals, and was joined on the podium by Aya Shehata of Egypt, who was beaten 6-1 and 7-3 by Chaari in the last four.

Xu Lei provided the second gold for China on her Grand Prix final debut in the over-67kg, beating newly-crowned under-73kg world champion Althéa Laurin 1-0 and 7-4.

World Championships silver medallist Rebecca McGowan of Britain took joint-third after going down 11-6 and 9-6 to Xu, while Zhou Zeqi doubled the Chinese presence on the podium with a run to the semi-finals, where she was beaten in three rounds by Laurin.

Spain's Adrian Vicente Yunta was the day's other winner in the men's under-58kg category.

Final opponent Mahdi Hajimousaei of Iran took the lead 15-9 in the first round, but Vicente Yunta hit back 10-3 and 6-4 to claim gold.

Olympic bronze medallist Jang Jun of South Korea placed joint-third after losing 14-9 and 11-5 to Vicente Yunta in his semi-final, while in the other half of the draw Hajimousaei progressed by walkover after his compatriot Abolfazi Zand withdrew because of injury.

The opening Grand Prix of the year is due to conclude tomorrow with the women's under-49kg and men's under-80kg events.
