Hungary's Lea Vasas and Balázs Katz took the mixed doubles teqball title on day nine at the Kraków-Małopolska 2023 European Games here.

Matches were once again held on Kraków's Main Square, and it was world champion Vasas and Katz who emerged as the dominant pairing.

Vasas won mixed doubles gold at the World Championships last year playing with Ádám Bakó, and a 12-6, 12-8 victory against Serbia's Nikola Mitro and Maja Umicevic ensured she won the European Games title with Katz.

The Hungarian duo had earlier beaten Lukáš Flaks and Gabriela Zachová of Czech Republic 12-7, 12-10, while Mitro and Umicevic ended Poland's hopes of a home gold by beating Marek Pokwap and Alicja Bartnicka 12-2, 12-11.

Pokwap and Bartnicka sealed bronze with a 12-6, 12-10 victory over Flaks and Zachová.

Fencing competition concluded today at the Tauron Arena in Kraków.

The women's sabre marked the fourth team final held between France and Italy.

Three of those were won by France after individual Olympic bronze medallist Manon Apithy-Brunet, Sara Balzer and Margaux Rifkiss helped the Tokyo 2020 silver medallists to win the last fencing event of the Games 45-38.

Hungary had earlier beaten Bulgaria 45-40 for women's sabre team bronze.

The men's épée team final was a low-scoring affair featuring two yellow and seven red cards.

Tokyo 2020 individual silver medallist Gergely Siklósi, Mate Tamas Koch and Dávid Nagy ensured Hungary had the edge over Switzerland 28-26.

Italy beat France to the bronze by 39 points to 37.

The first gold medal of the day went to Germany in the canoe slalom men's team C1 on the Kolna Sports Centre course.

Sideris Tasiadis, Franz Anton and Timo Trummer clocked 101.69sec, beating the 105.60 from Slovakia and 107.84 from Britain.

Nika Križnar was the day's other winner on the Wielka Krokiew hill in Zakopane, leading a Slovenian one-two with Nika Prevc in the women's large hill ski jumping event.

Slovenia won a mixed team bronze yesterday, and Križnar was the top performer in both rounds in the individual competition, scoring 277.4 points from jumps of 137.5 metres and 132.0m.

Prevc earned a silver as she did on the normal hill with 262.3, and Germany's Selina Freitag completed the podium in 245.8.
