Julien Épaillard of France and Donatello d'Auge won the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix du Prince de Monaco four weeks after triumphing in the Grand Prix of Ramatuelle.

Dutch World Championships silver medallist Harrie Smolders and Monaco N.O. bagged silver while bronze went to young Greek star Ioli Mytilineou and Levis de Muze.

The results in Monaco did not affect the overall rankings as two-time Olympic medallist Maikel van der Vleuten is leading the pack on 203 points.

Christian Kukuk of Germany is currently second with 180.2 points while Malin Baryard-Johnsson of Sweden is third with 148 points.

"This Grand Prix was a big aim for me," Épaillard, who posted 36.54sec, said after the win.

"Maybe this is the best Grand Prix I’ve ever won, today, so we will enjoy!

"Donatello is a special horse for us - I bred him with my wife, he is now 10 years old and he has now won three or four 5* Grand Prix’s, so it is very nice to breed a horse like this and celebrate the win with him."

Smolders aboard Monaco N.O.P managed to clock 37.81 while Mytilineou claimed bronze with a timing of 40.17.

"It feels incredible - I still haven't really realized it yet, I don't think," Mytilineou said.

"At this show a lot of top riders brought their top horses, it really was the big guns here tonight."

Home hero Philipp Rozier and Le Coultre de Muze finished fourth in 41.27.

Jeanne Sadran and Unforgettable Damvil completed the top five, after finishing in 44.56.

A Coruna in Spain is set to host the 10th leg of the 2023 Championship from July 14 to 16.
