Marie Němcová won three of those, including the women's wildwater canoe sprint title, defeating France’s reigning world and European canoe sprint title holder, Laura Fontaine.

Her other two golds came in the U23 women's canoe and kayak sprint victories.

After winning the U23 canoe classic race silver earlier in the week, Charles Ferrion of France added the wildwater canoe sprint title in the age category to his name.

Ana Steblaj was triumphant in the women's U23 wildwater kayak sprint, defeating Němcová to the title.

The hosts won gold medals in the junior men's and women's kayak, the junior men's canoe, the U23 women's and men's canoe, and the U23 men's canoe double on the second day of the competition.

Canada won its first medal from junior World Championships Daniel Parry, Owen McKay and Mason Beaumont combined for the junior men's canoe team bronze.

"We are so glad that we arrived here and that guys managed to finish the race in third place," an  emotional coach Harold van Winssen said.

"I am speechless, it is amazing.

"I can’t wait for the medal ceremony."

European champion Tereza Kneblová continued her gold-winning form from the Kraków-Małopolska 2023 European Games by claiming the women's U23 C1 classic on the opening day.

For Britain, Kerry Christie was the woman to beat as she pipped Cecilia Panato of Italy and compatriot Lucy Guest for the women's U23 K1 classic title.

Lean Bogaerts of Belgium overcame the challenge of home athlete Matyas Novak and German Philipp Bluhm for the men's junior K1 gold.

Swiss star Mona Clavadetscher was the winner in the women's K1 junior classic, getting the better of Eve Vitali-Guilbert of France and Italy's Marta Cecconi.
